{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-77-13-2","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 77-13-2","heading":"Record of plea -- Effect of each kind of plea.","body":"Every plea shall be entered upon the record of the court and shall have the following effect:\n(1) A plea of not guilty is a denial of the guilt of the accused and puts in issue every material allegation of the information or indictment;\n(2) A plea of guilty is an acknowledgment that the accused is guilty of the offense charged; and\n(3) A plea of no contest indicates the accused does not challenge the charges in the information or indictment and if accepted by the court shall have the same effect as a plea of guilty and imposition of sentence may be rendered in the same manner as if a plea of guilty had been entered.","path":["Title 77 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 77-13 Pleas"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title77/Chapter13/77-13-S2.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"c690b9a9c6495e2bbb2899af88d0dbbb7ea2df597c661727a314b85f45db767a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-77-13-1","next":"us-ut/utah-code-77-13-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
