{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-77-17-9","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 77-17-9","heading":"Separation or sequestration of jurors -- Oath of officer having custody.","body":"(1) The court, at any time before the submission of the case to the jury, may permit the jury to separate or order that it be sequestered in charge of a proper officer.\n(2) If the jury is sequestered, the officer:\n(a) shall be sworn to keep the jurors together until the next meeting of the court, to prevent any person from speaking or communicating with them;\n(b) may not communicate with the jurors on any subject connected with the trial; and\n(c) shall return the jury to the court pursuant to its order.","path":["Title 77 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 77-17 The Trial"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title77/Chapter17/77-17-S9.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"2f220c4bc95cac56947e7e90eacf99f53f84034bb35b849b15ef65d494b5391a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-77-17-8","next":"us-ut/utah-code-77-17-10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
