{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-18","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 77-7-18","heading":"Citation on misdemeanor or infraction charge.","body":"(1) Any person subject to arrest or prosecution on a misdemeanor or infraction charge may be issued and delivered a citation that requires the person to appear at the court of the magistrate with territorial jurisdiction.\n(2) The following may issue the citation described in Subsection (1):\n(a) a peace officer, in lieu of or in addition to taking the person into custody;\n(b) any public official of any county or municipality charged with the enforcement of the law;\n(c) a port-of-entry agent as defined in Section 72-1-102;\n(d) an animal control officer of a county, municipality, or special service district under Title 17D, Chapter 1, Special Service District Act, who is authorized to provide animal control service; and\n(e) a volunteer authorized to issue a citation under Section 41-6a-217.","path":["Title 77 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 77-7 Arrest, by Whom, and How Made"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title77/Chapter7/77-7-S18.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"e2982f95c9cb0c1ac7d5dce71efe45c33a534cb7d74d6daa93b5030606386c33","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-17.5","next":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-19"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
