{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-26","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 77-7-26","heading":"Improper disposition or cancellation of notice to appear or traffic citation -- Official misconduct -- Misdemeanor.","body":"(1)\n(a) It is unlawful and official misconduct for any peace officer or other officer or public employee to dispose of:\n(i) a notice to appear; or\n(ii) traffic citation.\n(b) The provisions of Subsection (1)(a) do not apply if the disposal is done with the consent of the magistrate before whom the arrested person was to appear.\n(2) A person who cancels or solicits the cancellation of a notice to appear or a traffic citation, in any manner other than as provided by law, is guilty of a class B misdemeanor.","path":["Title 77 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 77-7 Arrest, by Whom, and How Made"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title77/Chapter7/77-7-S26.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"7cbb1f35804b4c75ef14a1f16bf2bc70a17b0cb2b295243b8b9f40e88e030730","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-25","next":"us-ut/utah-code-77-7-27"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
