{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-12-207","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78A-12-207","heading":"Evaluation of justice court judges.","body":"(1) The Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission shall:\n(a) conduct a performance evaluation for each justice court judge in the third and fifth year of the justice court judge's term;\n(b) classify each justice court judge into one of the following three categories:\n(i) full evaluation;\n(ii) midlevel evaluation; or\n(iii) basic evaluation; and\n(c) establish evaluation criteria for each of the three categories.\n(2) A full evaluation justice court judge shall be subject to the requirements of this chapter.\n(3) A midlevel evaluation justice court judge shall be governed by this chapter, except as provided below:\n(a) the commission shall administer an intercept survey periodically outside the courtroom of the evaluated justice court judge in lieu of the survey specified in Section 78A-12-204; and\n(b) courtroom observation may not be conducted for midlevel evaluation justice court judges.\n(4) A basic evaluation justice court judge shall be governed by this chapter, except as provided below:\n(a) basic evaluation justice court judges shall comply with minimum performance standards for judicial education, judicial conduct, cases under advisement, and any other standards the commission may promulgate by administrative rule; and\n(b) courtroom observation and surveys may not be conducted for basic evaluation justice court judges.","path":["Title 78A Judiciary and Judicial Administration","Chapter 78A-12 Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission","Part 78A-12-2 Judicial Performance Evaluation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78A/Chapter12/78A-12-S207.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"ecab0025fc0c6204e4d8748be528296397abe92f852d5251435fbf23185effe8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-12-206","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-1-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
