{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-2-201","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78A-2-201","heading":"Powers of every court.","body":"Every court has authority to:\n(1) preserve and enforce order in its immediate presence;\n(2) enforce order in the proceedings before it, or before a person authorized to conduct a judicial investigation under its authority;\n(3) provide for the orderly conduct of proceedings before it or its officers;\n(4) compel obedience to its judgments, orders, and process, and to the orders of a judge out of court, in a pending action or proceeding;\n(5) control in furtherance of justice the conduct of its ministerial officers, and of all other persons in any manner connected with a judicial proceeding before it in every matter;\n(6) compel the attendance of persons to testify in a pending action or proceeding, as provided by law;\n(7) administer oaths in a pending action or proceeding, and in all other cases where necessary in the exercise of its authority and duties;\n(8) amend and control its process and orders to conform to law and justice;\n(9) devise and make new process and forms of proceedings, consistent with law, necessary to carry into effect its authority and jurisdiction; and\n(10) enforce rules of the Supreme Court and Judicial Council.","path":["Title 78A Judiciary and Judicial Administration","Chapter 78A-2 Judicial Administration","Part 78A-2-2 General Provisions Applicable to Courts and Judges"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78A/Chapter2/78A-2-S201.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"f276ea235ee62e87a11f0879581a1ab159810cfad2976afb2d012fa66179243d","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-2-114","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-2-202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
