{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-6-120","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78A-6-120","heading":"Continuing jurisdiction of juvenile court -- Period of and termination of jurisdiction.","body":"(1) Except as provided in Subsection (2), if the juvenile court obtains jurisdiction over a minor's case, the juvenile court's jurisdiction over the minor's case continues until:\n(a) the minor is 21 years old; or\n(b) if the juvenile court extends jurisdiction over the minor's case under Section 80-6-605, the minor is 25 years old.\n(2)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (2)(c), the juvenile court's continuing jurisdiction under Subsection (1) terminates:\n(i) upon order of the court;\n(ii) upon an order for secure care under Section 80-6-705 ; or\n(iii) in accordance with Section 80-6-712.\n(b) The continuing jurisdiction of the juvenile court over a minor's case is not terminated:\n(i) by marriage; or\n(ii) when a minor commits an offense under municipal, state, or federal law that is under the jurisdiction of another court.\n(c) If a minor is ordered to secure care under Section 80-6-705, the juvenile court retains jurisdiction to make and enforce orders related to restitution until the Youth Parole Authority discharges the minor under Section 80-6-807.","path":["Title 78A Judiciary and Judicial Administration","Chapter 78A-6 Juvenile Court","Part 78A-6-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78A/Chapter6/78A-6-S120.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"b487064717c42942952b677276d39c90739e8623e34cabe80d4c94ea9aae2d60","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-6-104","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-6-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
