{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-7-101.5","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78A-7-101.5","heading":"Creation of justice court -- Not of record -- Independent branch of local government -- Classes of justice courts.","body":"(1)\n(a) Under Article VIII, Section 1, Utah Constitution, there is created a court not of record known as the justice court.\n(b) The judges of this court are justice court judges.\n(2) A justice court is:\n(a) a court of this state in accordance with Section 78A-1-101;\n(b) a part of the state judiciary even though the justice court is funded and staffed by a municipality or county; and\n(c) independent from the other branches of government for a municipality or county.\n(3) A justice court may not be treated as part of the executive or legislative branches or offices of a municipality or county.\n(4) A municipality or county may only operate a justice court as authorized by this chapter.\n(5) Justice courts shall be divided into the following classes:\n(a) Class I: 501 or more case filings per month;\n(b) Class II: 201-500 case filings per month;\n(c) Class III: 61-200 case filings per month; and\n(d) Class IV: 60 or fewer case filings per month.","path":["Title 78A Judiciary and Judicial Administration","Chapter 78A-7 Justice Court","Part 78A-7-1 Creation, Jurisdiction, and Procedure"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78A/Chapter7/78A-7-S101.5.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"8b94153cd1eaa679277079873ad27629717948b50373bdf4f7d5aeba2e3a79fb","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-7-101.1","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78a-7-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
