{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-5-508","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78B-5-508","heading":"Allowable claims against exempt property.","body":"(1) Notwithstanding other provisions of this part, but subject to the provisions of the Utah Uniform Consumer Credit Code:\n(a) A creditor may levy against exempt property of any kind, except unemployment benefits, to enforce a claim for:\n(i) alimony, support, or maintenance;\n(ii) unpaid earnings of up to one month's compensation or the full-time equivalent of one month's compensation for personal services of an employee; or\n(iii) state or local taxes.\n(b) The only deductions that can be withheld from unemployment benefits are those listed in Section 35A-4-103.\n(c) A creditor may levy against exempt property to enforce a claim for:\n(i) the purchase price of the property or a loan made for the purpose of enabling an individual to purchase the specific property used for that purpose;\n(ii) labor or materials furnished to make, repair, improve, preserve, store, or transport the specific property; and\n(iii) a special assessment imposed to defray costs of a public improvement benefiting the property.\n(2) This section does not affect the right to enforce any statutory lien or security interest in exempt property.","path":["Title 78B Judicial Code","Chapter 78B-5 Trial, Judgment, and Appeal","Part 78B-5-5 Utah Exemptions Act"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78B/Chapter5/78B-5-S508.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"27fea36ed612d9ffd5a5c4f651d22856a3e1d7ab37341a1f2ef2dbc4f59fb8a4","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-5-507","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-5-509"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
