{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-7-1001","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 78B-7-1001","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1)\n(a) \"Agency\" means, except as provided in Subsection (1)(b), a state, county, or local government entity that generates or maintains records relating to a civil order for which expungement may be ordered.\n(b) \"Agency\" does not include the Division of Child and Family Services created in Section 80-2-201.\n(2) \"Civil order\" means:\n(a) an ex parte civil protective order;\n(b) an ex parte civil stalking injunction;\n(c) a civil protective order; or\n(d) a civil stalking injunction.\n(3)\n(a) \"Expunge\" means to remove a record from public inspection by:\n(i) sealing the record; or\n(ii) restricting or denying access to the record.\n(b) \"Expunge\" does not include the destruction of a record.\n(4) \"Petitioner\" means an individual petitioning for expungement of a civil order under this part.","path":["Title 78B Judicial Code","Chapter 78B-7 Protective Orders and Stalking Injunctions","Part 78B-7-10 Expungement of Protective Orders and Stalking Injunctions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title78B/Chapter7/78B-7-S1001.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"53b0796e98c0c875732626ae5f2b3348de723fac64b3f1d33d75956fb25d509a","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-7-904","next":"us-ut/utah-code-78b-7-1002"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
