{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-79-2-703","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 79-2-703","heading":"Division director -- Qualifications -- Duties -- Special deputies.","body":"(1) The director is the executive and administrative head of the division, appointed in accordance with Section 79-2-204.\n(2) The director shall demonstrate:\n(a) experience as a sworn law enforcement officer; and\n(b) law enforcement leadership ability.\n(3) The director shall:\n(a) enforce the policies and rules of the department's divisions; and\n(b) perform the duties necessary to:\n(i) coordinate, prioritize, and direct the law enforcement needs of the divisions within the department;\n(ii) properly care for and maintain any property under the jurisdiction of the division; and\n(iii) carry out the purposes of this part.\n(4)\n(a) The director may appoint an individual, on a temporary basis, as a special deputy.\n(b) A special deputy may enforce this part and rules made under this part.\n(5) The director may deputize an individual who is a peace officer to assist the division on a seasonal or temporary basis.","path":["Title 79 Natural Resources","Chapter 79-2 Department of Natural Resources","Part 79-2-7 Division of Law Enforcement"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title79/Chapter2/79-2-S703.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"163dcbab1b350a81d88b4946fe2c992361dffae95fb9182b59f43588e9ba5242","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-79-2-702","next":"us-ut/utah-code-79-2-704"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
