{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-80-5-602","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 80-5-602","heading":"Homeless youth -- Consent to shelter, care, or services by a homeless youth.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Care\" means providing:\n(i) assistance to obtain food, clothing, hygiene products, or other basic necessities;\n(ii) access to a bed, showering facility, or transportation; or\n(iii) assistance with school enrollment or attendance.\n(b) \"Licensed services\" means a service provided by a temporary homeless youth shelter, a youth services center, or other facility that is licensed to provide the service to a homeless youth.\n(c) \"Service\" means:\n(i) youth services;\n(ii) child welfare or juvenile court case management or advocacy;\n(iii) aftercare services; or\n(iv) independent living skills training.\n(2) A homeless youth may consent to temporary shelter, care, or licensed services if the homeless youth:\n(a) is at least 15 years old; and\n(b) manages the homeless youth's own financial affairs, regardless of the source of income.\n(3) In determining consent under Subsection (2), a person may rely on the homeless youth's verbal or written statement describing the homeless youth's ability to consent to temporary shelter, care, or licensed services.\n(4) A person who provides shelter, care, or licensed services to a homeless youth who consents to the shelter, care, or licensed services under Subsection (2):\n(a) shall report to the division as required under Subsection 80-5-601(4); and\n(b) may provide the homeless youth a referral to temporary or permanent housing, employment resources, medical or dental providers, or counseling.","path":["Title 80 Utah Juvenile Code","Chapter 80-5 Juvenile Justice Services","Part 80-5-6 Runaways and Ungovernable Children"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title80/Chapter5/80-5-S602.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"a65de2ff2e5c231572eb0a6a7ebe65d39b144ed217fe8a45ee8c1e9396231adf","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-80-5-601","next":"us-ut/utah-code-80-5-603"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
