{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-80-6-503","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 80-6-503","heading":"Criminal information for a minor in juvenile court -- Extending juvenile court jurisdiction.","body":"(1) If a prosecuting attorney charges a minor with a felony, the prosecuting attorney may file a criminal information in the juvenile court if the minor was a principal actor in an offense and the information alleges:\n(a)\n(i) the minor was 16 or 17 years old at the time of the offense; and\n(ii) the offense for which the minor is being charged is a felony violation of:\n(A) Section 76-5-103, aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury to another;\n(B) Section 76-5-202, attempted aggravated murder;\n(C) Section 76-5-203, attempted murder;\n(D) Section 76-5-302, aggravated kidnapping;\n(E) Section 76-5-405, aggravated sexual assault;\n(F) Section 76-6-103, aggravated arson;\n(G) Section 76-6-203, aggravated burglary;\n(H) Section 76-6-302, aggravated robbery;\n(I) Section 76-11-210, felony discharge of a firearm; or\n(J) an offense other than an offense listed in Subsections (1)(a)(ii)(A) through (I) involving the use of a dangerous weapon if the offense would be a felony had an adult committed the offense, and the minor has been previously adjudicated or convicted of an offense involving the use of a dangerous weapon that would have been a felony if committed by an adult; or\n(b)\n(i) the minor was 14 or 15 years old at the time of the offense; and\n(ii) the offense for which the minor is being charged is a felony violation of:\n(A) Section 76-5-202, aggravated murder or attempted aggravated murder; or\n(B) Section 76-5-203, murder or attempted murder.\n(2) At the time that a prosecuting attorney files an information under this section, a party may file a motion to extend the juvenile court's continuing jurisdiction in accordance with Section 80-6-605.","path":["Title 80 Utah Juvenile Code","Chapter 80-6 Juvenile Justice","Part 80-6-5 Minor Tried as an Adult"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title80/Chapter6/80-6-S503.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"d09d3ec26430d457784dbcbc8bf45df05ba784cf007fb66a5abc9822ef91928f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-80-6-502","next":"us-ut/utah-code-80-6-504"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
