{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-301","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 81-2-301","heading":"Definitions for part.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"County clerk\" means:\n(a) the county clerk of the county; or\n(b) an employee or designee of the county clerk who is authorized to issue marriage licenses or solemnize marriages.\n(2) \"Judge or magistrate of the United States\" means:\n(a) a justice of the United States Supreme Court;\n(b) a judge of a court of appeals;\n(c) a judge of a district court;\n(d) a judge of any court created by an act of Congress, the judges of which are entitled to hold office during good behavior;\n(e) a judge of a bankruptcy court;\n(f) a judge of a tax court; or\n(g) a United States magistrate.\n(3) \"Minor\" means an individual who is 16 or 17 years old.\n(4)\n(a) \"Native American spiritual advisor\" means an individual who:\n(i) leads, instructs, or facilitates a Native American religious ceremony or service or provides religious counseling; and\n(ii) is recognized as a spiritual advisor by a federally recognized Native American tribe.\n(b) \"Native American spiritual advisor\" includes a sweat lodge leader, medicine person, traditional religious practitioner, or holy man or woman.\n(c) \"Military chaplain\" means an individual who is a commissioned officer of:\n(i) the Chaplain Corps of the United States Army;\n(ii) the Chaplain Corps of the United States Navy, including the United States Coast Guard; or\n(iii) the United States Air Force designated for duty as a chaplain.","path":["Title 81 Utah Domestic Relations Code","Chapter 81-2 Marriage","Part 81-2-3 Marriage License and Solemnization"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title81/Chapter2/81-2-S301.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"77afa4d1b6769c6348c7a6a0c666c5903e0d4eed3c15f5247dae6c9f48ff81b8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-209","next":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
