{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-306","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 81-2-306","heading":"County clerk to file license and certificate -- Designation as vital record.","body":"(1)\n(a) The county clerk shall:\n(i) file and preserve the marriage license returned by an individual under Subsection 81-2-305(5) with the certificate of the marriage; and\n(ii) record the marriage license and certificate in a book kept for that purpose or by electronic means.\n(b) The record shall be properly indexed in the names of the parties so married.\n(2) An individual may use a diacritical mark, as defined in Section 26B-8-103, on a marriage license.\n(3) A transcript shall be promptly certified and transmitted by the clerk to the state registrar of vital statistics.\n(4) The marriage license and the certificate of the individual officiating at the marriage are:\n(a) vital records as defined in Section 26B-8-101; and\n(b) subject to the inspection requirements described in Section 26B-8-125.","path":["Title 81 Utah Domestic Relations Code","Chapter 81-2 Marriage","Part 81-2-3 Marriage License and Solemnization"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title81/Chapter2/81-2-S306.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:34Z","sha256":"f9a72559d7fc1e49599c89bada073dd986876ed4bafc8aee8cc76512e15987c6","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-305","next":"us-ut/utah-code-81-2-401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
