The entry-level shotgun classroom instruction will emphasize but not be limited to:\n\n1. Safe and proper use and handling of the shotgun;\n\n2. Nomenclature;\n\n3. Positions and combat loading techniques;\n\n4. Decision-making for the officer with the shotgun;\n\n5. Transition from sidearm to shotgun; and\n\n6. Shotgun retention and proper use of a sling.\n\nTotal hours – 2 hours\n\nB. Range qualification (no minimum hours). The purpose of the range-firing course is to provide practical shotgun training to those individuals who carry or have immediate access to a shotgun in the performance of their duties.\n\n1. For certification, 12 gauge, double aught \"00\" buckshot ammunition shall be used. Five rounds.\n\n2. Scoring – 70% of available pellets must be within silhouette.\n\nC. Course: Virginia Private Security Course of Fire for Shotguns.\n\nDistance\n\nPosition\n\nNo. Rounds\n\nTarget\n\nTime\n\nCombat load \u0026 fire – 15 yds.\n\nStanding/Shoulder\n\n3\n\nB-27 Silhouette\n\n20 sec.\n\nCombat load \u0026 fire – 25 yds.\n\nKneeling/Shoulder\n\n2\n\nB-27 Silhouette\n\n15 sec.\n\nD. A certified firearms instructor must be present on the range directly controlling the firing line during all phases of firearms range training.
