The candidate shall have:\n\n1. Earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and graduated from an approved teacher preparation program in adult English as a second language; or\n\n2. Earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and hold a license issued by the Virginia Board of Education with an endorsement in a teaching area; and\n\n3. Completed 21 semester hours of coursework distributed in the following areas:\n\na. Methods for teaching adult English learners: three semester hours;\n\nb. English linguistics: three semester hours;\n\nc. Cross-cultural education: three semester hours;\n\nd. Modern foreign language: six semester hours; and\n\ne. Electives from the following areas: six semester hours:\n\n(1) Cross-cultural communication;\n\n(2) Second language acquisition;\n\n(3) General linguistics;\n\n(4) Teaching reading to adults;\n\n(5) Adult English learner instruction; or\n\n(6) Adult English learner curriculum development.","path":["Title 8.
