{"data":{"id":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-1026","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"13 V.S.A. § 1026","heading":"Disorderly conduct","body":"(a) A person is guilty of disorderly conduct if the person, with intent to cause public inconvenience or annoyance, or recklessly creates a risk thereof:\n(1) engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous, or threatening behavior;\n(2) makes unreasonable noise;\n(3) in a public place, uses abusive or obscene language;\n(4) without lawful authority, disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons; or\n(5) obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic.\n(b) A person who is convicted of disorderly conduct shall be imprisoned for not more than 60 days or fined not more than $500.00, or both. A person who is convicted of a second or subsequent offense under this section shall be imprisoned for not more than 120 days or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.\n(c) As used in this section:\n(1) “Disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons” means conduct that substantially impairs the effective conduct of an assembly or meeting, including conduct that:\n(A) causes an assembly or meeting to terminate prematurely; or\n(B) consists of numerous and sustained efforts to disrupt an assembly or meeting after being asked to desist.\n(2) “Meeting” includes a meeting of a public body, as those terms are defined in 1 V.S.A. § 310.","path":["Title 13: Crimes and Criminal Procedure","Chapter 019: Breach of the Peace; Disturbances","Subchapter 004: OTHER DISTURBANCES OF THE PEACE"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/13/019/01026","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:09:27Z","sha256":"b0556b4b6aaeba484e23b907edab7c6041ba540a348471bf419113cd5f63c37c","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-1025","next":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-1026a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
