{"data":{"id":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-3017","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"13 V.S.A. § 3017","heading":"Resisting arrest","body":"(a) A person who intentionally attempts to prevent a lawful arrest on himself or herself, which is being effected or attempted by a law enforcement officer, when it would reasonably appear that the latter is a law enforcement officer, shall:\n(1) for the first offense, be imprisoned not more than one year or fined not more than $500.00, or both;\n(2) for the second offense and subsequent offenses, be imprisoned not more than two years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.\n(b) A defendant’s mistaken belief in the unlawfulness of the arrest shall not be a defense to a prosecution under this section.\n(c) A person may not be convicted of both an escape from lawful custody, as defined in subdivision 1501(a)(2) of this title, and a violation of this section.","path":["Title 13: Crimes and Criminal Procedure","Chapter 067: Public Justice and Public Officers"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/13/067/03017","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:16:58Z","sha256":"98125c66f4913974d30b2245288870adf666e07b7fa068d6285d259618989ace","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-3016","next":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-3018"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
