{"data":{"id":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-4103","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"13 V.S.A. § 4103","heading":"Access to computer for fraudulent purposes","body":"(a) A person shall not intentionally and without lawful authority access or cause to be accessed any computer, computer system, or computer network for any of the following purposes:\n(1) executing any scheme or artifice to defraud;\n(2) obtaining money, property, or services by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises; or\n(3) in connection with any scheme or artifice to defraud, damaging, destroying, altering, deleting, copying, retrieving, interfering with or denial of access to, or removing any program or data contained therein.\n(b) Penalties. A person convicted of the crime of access to computer for fraudulent purposes shall be:\n(1) if the value of the matter involved does not exceed $500.00, imprisoned not more than one year or fined not more than $500.00, or both;\n(2) if the value of the matter involved does not exceed $500.00, for a second or subsequent offense, imprisoned not more than two years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both; or\n(3) if the value of the matter involved exceeds $500.00, imprisoned not more than 10 years or fined not more than $10,000.00, or both.","path":["Title 13: Crimes and Criminal Procedure","Chapter 087: Computer Crimes"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/13/087/04103","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:16:58Z","sha256":"0fa98dbb0a13bb106350eeb9d6056bfeb31e981afe5b40e3d422e1020887aaaa","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-4102","next":"us-vt/13-v.s.a.-4104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
