{"data":{"id":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1063","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"15 V.S.A. § 1063","heading":"Application to Indian tribes; international application","body":"(a) A child custody proceeding that pertains to an Indian child as defined in the Indian Child Welfare Act, 25 U.S.C. § 1901 et seq., is not subject to this chapter to the extent that it is governed by the Indian Child Welfare Act.\n(b) A Vermont court shall treat a foreign country as if it were a state of the United States for the purpose of applying this subchapter and subchapter 2 of this chapter.\n(c) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (d) of this section, a child custody determination made in a foreign country under factual circumstances in substantial conformity with the jurisdictional standards of this chapter must be recognized and enforced under subchapter 3 of this chapter.\n(d) A Vermont court need not apply this chapter if the child custody law of a foreign country violates fundamental principles of human rights.","path":["Title 15: Domestic Relations","Chapter 020: Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act","Subchapter 001: GENERAL PROVISIONS"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/15/020/01063","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:00Z","sha256":"a1d74a8e95831bd072c0441f099534672a9fb644172f5960d3a1d486a7bf92a5","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1062","next":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1064"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
