{"data":{"id":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1093","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"15 V.S.A. § 1093","heading":"Role of Attorney General; role of law enforcement","body":"(a) In a case arising under this chapter or involving the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, the Attorney General or a State’s Attorney may take any lawful action, including resort to a proceeding under this subchapter or any other available civil proceeding to locate a child, obtain the return of a child, or enforce a child custody determination if there is:\n(1) an existing child custody determination;\n(2) a request to do so from a court in a pending child custody proceeding;\n(3) a reasonable belief that a criminal statute has been violated; or\n(4) a reasonable belief that the child has been wrongfully removed or retained in violation of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.\n(b) The Attorney General or a State’s Attorney acting under this section acts on behalf of the court and shall not represent any party.\n(c) At the request of the Attorney General or a State’s Attorney acting under this section, a law enforcement officer may take any lawful action reasonably necessary to locate a child or a party and assist the Attorney General or State’s Attorney with responsibilities under this section.","path":["Title 15: Domestic Relations","Chapter 020: Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act","Subchapter 003: ENFORCEMENT"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/15/020/01093","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:00Z","sha256":"c3a006f780ac9ba50ef9f9035e28611dc3a94603f536f0612f29e8666b6307ec","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1092","next":"us-vt/15-v.s.a.-1094"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
