{"data":{"id":"us-vt/15b-v.s.a.-1401","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"15B V.S.A. § 1401","heading":"Establishment of support order","body":"(a) If a support order entitled to recognition under this title has not been issued, a responding tribunal of this State with personal jurisdiction over the parties may issue a support order if:\n(1) the individual seeking the order resides outside the State; or\n(2) the support enforcement agency seeking the order is located outside this State.\n(b) The tribunal may issue a temporary child support order if the tribunal determines that such an order is appropriate and the individual ordered to pay is:\n(1) a presumed father of the child;\n(2) petitioning to have his paternity adjudicated;\n(3) identified as the father of the child through genetic testing;\n(4) an alleged father who has declined to submit to genetic testing;\n(5) shown by clear and convincing evidence to be the father of the child;\n(6) an acknowledged father as provided by applicable State law;\n(7) the mother of the child; or\n(8) an individual who has been ordered to pay child support in a previous proceeding and the order has not been reversed or vacated.\n(c) Upon finding, after notice and opportunity to be heard, that an obligor owes a duty of support, the tribunal shall issue a support order directed to the obligor and may issue other orders pursuant to section 1305 of this title.","path":["Title 15B: Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (1996)","Chapter 014: Establishment of a Support Order or Determination of Parentage"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/15B/014/01401","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:00Z","sha256":"1ffc19b2c726e3eccd8bda3cb01693284295ca350679de7f70c11849163f6b0d","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/15b-v.s.a.-1319","next":"us-vt/15b-v.s.a.-1402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
