{"data":{"id":"us-vt/2-v.s.a.-266","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"2 V.S.A. § 266","heading":"Prohibited conduct","body":"(a) It shall be prohibited conduct:\n(1) to employ a lobbyist or lobbying firm, or accept employment as a lobbyist or lobbying firm, for compensation that is dependent on a contingency;\n(2) for a legislator or administrative official to solicit a gift, other than a contribution, from a registered employer or registered lobbyist or a lobbying firm engaged by an employer, except that charitable contributions for nonprofit organizations qualified under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(3) may be solicited from registered employers and registered lobbyists or lobbying firms engaged by an employer; or\n(3) when the General Assembly is in session, until adjournment sine die:\n(A) for a legislator, a legislator’s candidate’s committee, a legislative leadership political committee, or an administrative official to solicit a contribution from a registered lobbyist, a registered employer, or a lobbying firm engaged by an employer; or\n(B) for a registered lobbyist, registered employer, or a lobbying firm engaged by an employer to make or promise a contribution to a legislator, a legislator’s candidate’s committee, or a legislative leadership political committee.\n(b)(1) A legislator or an Executive officer, for one year after leaving office, shall not be a lobbyist in this State.\n(2) The prohibition set forth in subdivision (1) of this subsection shall not apply to a lobbyist exempted under section 262 of this chapter.\n(c) As used in this section:\n(1) “Candidate’s committee,” “contribution,” and “legislative leadership political committee” shall have the same meanings as in 17 V.S.A. chapter 61 (campaign finance).\n(2) “Executive officer” means:\n(A) the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Secretary of State, Auditor of Accounts, or Attorney General; or\n(B) under the Office of the Governor, an agency secretary or deputy or a department commissioner or deputy.","path":["Title 2: Legislature","Chapter 011: Registration of Lobbyists"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/02/011/00266","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T12:04:51Z","sha256":"ab1341ecb63573672c8677302a3fa6feedfd846fdafff8f94e46f7cfb43dd493","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/2-v.s.a.-265","next":"us-vt/2-v.s.a.-267"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
