{"data":{"id":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1104","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"23 V.S.A. § 1104","heading":"Stopping prohibited","body":"(a) Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in compliance with law or the directions of an enforcement officer or official traffic-control device, no person may:\n(1) Stop, stand, or park a vehicle:\n(A) on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street;\n(B) on a sidewalk;\n(C) within an intersection;\n(D) on a crosswalk;\n(E) alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping, standing, or parking would obstruct traffic;\n(F) upon any bridge or other elevated structure or within a highway tunnel;\n(G) on any railroad tracks; or\n(H) at any place where official signs prohibit stopping.\n(2) Stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger:\n(A) in front of a public or private driveway;\n(B) within six feet of a fire hydrant;\n(C) within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection;\n(D) within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, or traffic control light located at the side of a roadway;\n(E) within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite and within 75 feet of the entrance to any fire station, when properly signposted; or\n(F) at any place where official signs prohibit standing.\n(3) Park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or a passenger:\n(A) within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing;\n(B) at any place where official signs prohibit parking; or\n(C) at any place where official signs restrict parking at an electric vehicle charging station and the vehicle violates the restrictions.\n(b) No person may move a vehicle not lawfully under his or her control into any prohibited area or an unlawful distance away from a curb.","path":["Title 23: Motor Vehicles","Chapter 013: Operation of Vehicles","Subchapter 010: STOPPING, STANDING, AND PARKING"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/23/013/01104","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:05Z","sha256":"43f2d9f989d196a7406dec39e376efbd90eec0f4f1890c065abdb1316e3ba75e","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1103","next":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1105"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
