{"data":{"id":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1704a","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"23 V.S.A. § 1704a","heading":"Alteration of odometers","body":"(a) No person shall:\n(1) sell, attempt to sell, or cause to be sold any motor vehicle, highway building appliance, motorboat, all-terrain vehicle, or snowmobile if the odometer, hubometer reading, or clock meter reading has been changed, tampered with, or defaced without first disclosing that information to the buyer;\n(2) change, tamper with, or deface, or attempt to change, tamper with, or deface any odometer, hubometer, or clock meter in a motor vehicle, highway building appliance, motorboat, all-terrain vehicle, or snowmobile; or\n(3) willfully misrepresent the odometer, hubometer, or clock meter reading on the odometer disclosure statement or similar statement, title, or bill of sale.\n(b) A person who violates subsection (a) of this section shall be fined not more than $1,000.00 for a first offense and fined not more than $2,500.00 for each subsequent offense.","path":["Title 23: Motor Vehicles","Chapter 017: General Offenses and Jurisdiction"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/23/017/01704a","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:05Z","sha256":"07b02ef313cf6df4970c915c119fd86d4cd3a2a14bbc4e7cd908e29773cc5c9e","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1704","next":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-1705"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
