{"data":{"id":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-3829","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"23 V.S.A. § 3829","heading":"Altering, forging, or counterfeiting certificates","body":"(a) No person shall with fraudulent intent:\n(1) alter, forge, or counterfeit a certificate of title;\n(2) alter or forge an assignment of a certificate of title, or an assignment or release of a security interest, on a certificate of title or a form the Commissioner prescribes;\n(3) possess or use a certificate of title knowing it to have been altered, forged, or counterfeited; or\n(4) use a false or fictitious name or address, or make a material false statement, or fail to disclose a security interest, or conceal any other material fact, in an application for a certificate of title or a duplicate certificate of title.\n(b) A person convicted under this section shall be fined not less than $500.00 nor more than $5,000.00 or be imprisoned for not less than one year or for more than five years, or both.","path":["Title 23: Motor Vehicles","Chapter 036: Titling of Vessels, Snowmobiles, and All-Terrain Vehicles"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/23/036/03829","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:05Z","sha256":"a80e14fa6af9a47ba928f87d49de7b50c06d3dcbe61b7ae001a152fd91040c00","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-3828","next":"us-vt/23-v.s.a.-3830"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
