{"data":{"id":"us-vt/33-v.s.a.-143a","jurisdiction":"us-vt","citation":"33 V.S.A. § 143a","heading":"Civil remedies","body":"(a) A person who violates subsection 141(c), (d), or (e) of this title with actual knowledge may be subject to a civil suit by the Attorney General for:\n(1) restitution of the amount of assistance, benefits, or payments wrongfully obtained;\n(2) interest; and\n(3) a civil penalty of up to three times the amount of the wrongfully obtained assistance, benefits, or payments; or $500.00 per false claim; or $500.00 for each false document submitted in support of a false claim, whichever is greatest.\n(b) The remedies provided in this section shall be in addition to any other remedies provided by law.\n(c) The right to a jury trial shall attach to actions under this section.","path":["Title 33: Human Services","Chapter 001: Department for Children and Families","Subchapter 005: PROHIBITED PRACTICES; PENALTIES"],"source_url":"https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/section/33/001/00143a","current_through":"2025 session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:17:10Z","sha256":"505665421913fe9ff9f8775a9b0c951aee3f49595a5ad989801baeb10e5ce26b","source_id":"us-vt","stale":false,"prev":"us-vt/33-v.s.a.-143","next":"us-vt/33-v.s.a.-143b"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
