{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-26.20.035","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 26.20.035","heading":"Family nonsupport—Penalty—Exception.","body":"(1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, any person who is able to provide support, or has the ability to earn the means to provide support, and who:\n(a) Willfully omits to provide necessary food, clothing, shelter, or medical attendance to a child dependent upon him or her; or\n(b) Willfully omits to provide necessary food, clothing, shelter, or medical attendance to his or her spouse or his or her domestic partner,\nis guilty of the crime of family nonsupport.\n(2) A parent of a newborn who transfers the newborn to a qualified person at an appropriate location pursuant to RCW 13.34.360 is not subject to criminal liability under this section.\n(3) The crime of family nonsupport is a gross misdemeanor under chapter 9A.20 RCW.","path":["Title 26","Chapter 26.20"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=26.20.035","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:41:21Z","sha256":"a882c1471d6a8d87968aec967469ce79378001cd33041a83bd1e1b8ad1de4d52","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-26.20.030","next":"us-wa/rcw-26.20.071"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
