{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-26.21a.607","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 26.21A.607","heading":"Initiation by department of social and health services of support proceeding under convention.","body":"(1) In a support proceeding under this article, the department of social and health services of this state shall:\n(a) Transmit and receive applications; and\n(b) Initiate or facilitate the institution of a proceeding regarding an application in a tribunal of this state.\n(2) The following support proceedings are available to an obligee under the convention:\n(a) Recognition or recognition and enforcement of a foreign support order;\n(b) Enforcement of a support order issued or recognized in this state;\n(c) Establishment of a support order if there is no existing order including, if necessary, determination of parentage of a child;\n(d) Establishment of a support order if recognition of a foreign support order is refused under RCW 26.21A.617(2) (b), (d), or (i);\n(e) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of this state; and\n(f) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of another state or a foreign country.\n(3) The following support proceedings are available under the convention to an obligor against which there is an existing support order:\n(a) Recognition of an order suspending or limiting enforcement of an existing support order of a tribunal of this state;\n(b) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of this state; and\n(c) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of another state or a foreign country.\n(4) A tribunal of this state may not require security, bond, or deposit, however described, to guarantee the payment of costs and expenses in proceedings under the convention.","path":["Title 26","Chapter 26.21A"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=26.21A.607","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:42:38Z","sha256":"ef3c2d5a0c9a17c0838079db9e8db1ca8c77e4224523e130d0982f84dad8df8f","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-26.21a.605","next":"us-wa/rcw-26.21a.610"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
