{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-29a.12.005","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 29A.12.005","heading":"\"Voting system.\"","body":"As used in this chapter, \"voting system\" means:\n(1) The total combination of mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic equipment including, but not limited to, the software, firmware, and documentation required to program, control, and support the equipment, that is used:\n(a) To define ballots;\n(b) To cast and count votes;\n(c) To report or display election results from the voting system;\n(d) To maintain and produce any audit trail information; and\n(e) To perform an audit under RCW 29A.60.185; and\n(2) The practices and associated documentation used:\n(a) To identify system components and versions of such components;\n(b) To test the system during its development and maintenance;\n(c) To maintain records of system errors and defects;\n(d) To determine specific system changes to be made to a system after the initial qualification of the system; and\n(e) To make available any materials to the voter such as notices, instructions, forms, or paper ballots.","path":["Title 29A","Chapter 29A.12"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=29A.12.005","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T01:57:14Z","sha256":"cabb84e53c1a2f8c84fea2582f32e5d912e74eb418e6eeb3a51a20fac8c91a8e","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-29a.08.850","next":"us-wa/rcw-29a.12.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
