{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-29a.12.050","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 29A.12.050","heading":"Approval by secretary of state required.","body":"(1) Prior to use in conducting any primary or election, the secretary of state must approve systems used in the conduct of elections, including:\n(a) Voting systems, voting devices, or vote tallying systems, unless approved under this chapter or the former chapter 29.34 RCW before March 22, 1982; and\n(b) Any mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic equipment or platform, including software, firmware, or hardware that is used:\n(i) In issuing a ballot;\n(ii) To facilitate voters' response to a required notice;\n(iii) To provide an electronic means for submission of a ballot declaration signature under RCW 29A.60.165; or\n(iv) To issue, authenticate, or validate voter identification.\n(2) The secretary of state may, after review, determine that a modification, change, or improvement to any voting system or component of a system does not require a full reexamination or reapproval by the secretary of state under RCW 29A.12.020.","path":["Title 29A","Chapter 29A.12"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=29A.12.050","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T01:57:14Z","sha256":"a93d6ec732c46478d677c5015347c985baf3dcfa7960a3d9b3721533d35c2a39","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-29a.12.040","next":"us-wa/rcw-29a.12.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
