{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-31.45.020","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 31.45.020","heading":"Application of chapter.","body":"(1) This chapter does not apply to:\n(a) Any financial institution or trust company authorized to do business in Washington;\n(b) The cashing of checks, drafts, or money orders by any person who cashes checks, drafts, or money orders as a convenience, as a minor part of its customary business, and not for profit;\n(c) The issuance or sale of checks, drafts, or money orders by any corporation, partnership, or association that has a net worth of not less than three million dollars as shown by audited financial statements; and\n(d) The issuance or sale of checks, drafts, money orders, or other commercial paper serving the same purpose by any agent of a corporation, partnership, or association described in (c) of this subsection.\n(2) Upon application to the director, the director may exempt a person from any or all provisions of this chapter upon a finding by the director that although not otherwise exempt under this section, the applicant is not primarily engaged in the business of cashing or selling checks and a total or partial exemption would not be detrimental to the public.","path":["Title 31","Chapter 31.45"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=31.45.020","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:04:07Z","sha256":"a7728ac4afb90bd36c0e198b01f8306bd85f360a7cb093897e8bc309b0dfd534","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-31.45.010","next":"us-wa/rcw-31.45.022"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
