{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-38.42.140","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 38.42.140","heading":"Civil action—Attorney general.","body":"(1) Civil proceedings to enforce this chapter may be brought by the attorney general against any person that:\n(a) Engages in a pattern or practice of violating this chapter; or\n(b) Engages in a violation of this chapter that raises an issue of significant public importance.\n(2) In a civil action commenced under this section, the court may:\n(a) Grant any appropriate equitable or declaratory relief, including costs and reasonable attorneys' fees, with respect to the violation of this chapter;\n(b) Award all other appropriate relief, including monetary damages, to any person aggrieved by the violation; and\n(c) To vindicate the public interest, assess a civil penalty:\n(i) In an amount not exceeding fifty-five thousand dollars for a first violation; and\n(ii) In an amount not exceeding one hundred ten thousand dollars for any subsequent violation.\n(3) Upon timely application, a person aggrieved by a violation of this chapter with respect to which the civil action is commenced may intervene in such an action and may obtain appropriate relief as the person could obtain in a civil action under RCW 38.42.130 with respect to that violation, along with costs and reasonable attorneys' fees.","path":["Title 38","Chapter 38.42"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=38.42.140","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:36:43Z","sha256":"fcf1f0d0a8360a070864e81431126c27a5401249782d66d42101170188a97679","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-38.42.130","next":"us-wa/rcw-38.42.150"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
