{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-4.24.345","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 4.24.345","heading":"Unlawfully summoning a law enforcement officer—Civil action.","body":"(1) A person may bring a civil action for damages against any person who knowingly causes a law enforcement officer to arrive at a location to contact another person with the intent to:\n(a) Infringe on the other person's rights under the Washington state or United States Constitutions;\n(b) Unlawfully discriminate against the other person;\n(c) Cause the other person to feel harassed, humiliated, or embarrassed;\n(d) Cause the other person to be expelled from a place in which the other person is lawfully located; or\n(e) Damage the other person's:\n(i) Reputation or standing in the community; or\n(ii) Financial, economic, consumer, or business prospects or interests.\n(2) A person shall not be held liable under subsection (1) of this section if the person acted in good faith in causing a law enforcement officer to arrive.\n(3) Upon prevailing in an action under this section, the plaintiff may recover:\n(a) The greater of:\n(i) Economic and noneconomic damages; or\n(ii) $250 against each defendant found liable under this section; and\n(b) Punitive damages.\n(4) The court may award reasonable attorneys' fees and costs to the prevailing plaintiff in an action under this section.\n(5) A civil action under this section:\n(a) May be maintained in a court of limited jurisdiction if the total damages claimed do not exceed the statutory limit for damages that the court of limited jurisdiction may award; and\n(b) Does not affect a right or remedy available under any other law of this state.","path":["Title 4","Chapter 4.24"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=4.24.345","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:29:43Z","sha256":"ed53a8ecd41ada100c2ef63898c687f30a365f6f84c6ffd620f2387a9999384f","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-4.24.340","next":"us-wa/rcw-4.24.350"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
