(Effective January 1, 2027.)","body":"(1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, this chapter applies to the award of a default judgment in an action for collection of:\n(a) An unsecured consumer debt;\n(b) A secured consumer debt if the action is brought solely to obtain a money judgment; or\n(c) A deficiency that remains after disposition of property that secured a consumer debt.\n(2) This chapter does not apply to:\n(a) An action to take possession of or dispose of real or personal property, even if the action includes a request for a money judgment; or\n(b) An action to collect a debt owed to a government, governmental subdivision, or agency in which the government, governmental subdivision, or agency is the plaintiff.","path":["Title 4","Chapter 4.74"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=4.74.020","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:30:53Z","sha256":"b7611f1cdffc91c40fa975cb84e09749cd0d8e4ebc97da503d21f639c7f7f6c5","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-4.74.010","next":"us-wa/rcw-4.74.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
