When developing the model standards, the commission shall consult with:\n(1) Experts including public and private organizations that train canines to imprint on controlled substances;\n(2) Law enforcement or correctional agencies that use canines to detect controlled substances;\n(3) Experts on the training of canines for use by law enforcement; and\n(4) Licensed medical professionals and veterinarians, to the extent reasonably available, with expertise in: (a) Developing and implementing protocols to minimize exposure of canines and their handlers to opioids and their derivatives, including fentanyl and its derivatives; (b) detecting clinical signs of such exposure; and (c) intervening with timely and appropriate medical and veterinary medical treatment in the field, during stabilization and transport, and in-hospital following exposure to opioids and their derivatives, including fentanyl and its derivatives.","path":["Title 43","Chapter 43.101"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=43.101.803","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:49:17Z","sha256":"669776935c689ea4133e268eba88b0ebf036caed007f44ae8ae3508a5f5d73bb","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-43.101.802","next":"us-wa/rcw-43.101.901"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
