{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-46.32.005","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 46.32.005","heading":"Definitions.","body":"For the purpose of this chapter \"commercial motor vehicle\" means a self-propelled or towed vehicle used on a highway in interstate or intrastate commerce to transport passengers or property, when the vehicle:\n(1) Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating or gross weight or gross combination weight of 4,536 kilograms or more (10,001 pounds or more); or\n(2) Is designed or used to transport more than eight passengers, including the driver, for compensation; or\n(3) Is designed or used to transport more than fifteen passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or\n(4) Is used in transporting materials found by the secretary of transportation to be hazardous under 49 U.S.C. Sec. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding under regulations prescribed by the secretary under 49 C.F.R., subtitle B, Chapter I, subchapter C.\nA recreational vehicle used for noncommercial purposes is not considered a commercial motor vehicle. \"Recreational vehicle\" includes a vehicle towing a horse trailer for a noncommercial purpose.","path":["Title 46","Chapter 46.32"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.32.005","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T02:18:57Z","sha256":"e1ca2c4d7334519f541ee39c29ee1d71ffe7b6ee2840c4ebad98933340e5f942","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-46.30.901","next":"us-wa/rcw-46.32.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
