{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-47.01.078","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 47.01.078","heading":"Transportation system policy goals—Duties.","body":"To support achievement of the policy goals described in RCW 47.04.280, the department shall:\n(1) Maintain an inventory of the condition of structures and corridors in most urgent need of retrofit or rehabilitation;\n(2) Develop long-term financing tools that reliably provide ongoing maintenance and preservation of the transportation infrastructure;\n(3) Balance system safety and convenience through all phases of a project to accommodate all users of the transportation system to safely, reliably, and efficiently provide mobility to people and goods;\n(4) Develop strategies to gradually reduce the per capita vehicle miles traveled based on consideration of a range of reduction methods;\n(5) Consider efficiency tools, including high occupancy vehicle and high occupancy toll lanes, corridor-specific and systemwide pricing strategies, active traffic management, commute trip reduction, and other demand management tools;\n(6) Promote integrated multimodal planning; and\n(7) Consider engineers and architects to design environmentally sustainable, context-sensitive transportation systems.","path":["Title 47","Chapter 47.01"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=47.01.078","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T03:01:42Z","sha256":"b298d73aabfc6373c4b6fd647e441dd2e86832a20100189bbced08c7dbdcd9e6","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-47.01.075","next":"us-wa/rcw-47.01.081"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
