{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-48.43.430","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 48.43.430","heading":"Prescription medication—Maximum charge at point of sale—Requirements.","body":"(1) Beginning January 1, 2021, the maximum amount a health carrier or pharmacy benefit manager may require a person to pay at the point of sale for a covered prescription medication is the lesser of:\n(a) The applicable cost sharing for the prescription medication; or\n(b) The amount the person would pay for the prescription medication if the person purchased the prescription medication without using a health plan.\n(2) A health carrier or pharmacy benefit manager may not require a pharmacist to dispense a brand name prescription medication when a less expensive therapeutically equivalent generic prescription medication is available.\n(3) For purposes of this section, \"pharmacy benefit manager\" has the same meaning as in *RCW 19.340.010.","path":["Title 48","Chapter 48.43"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=48.43.430","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T03:15:11Z","sha256":"0f47e15e1262d271c0c7be369035866db72c26520cd0fb1e536c75716c0aac62","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-48.43.420","next":"us-wa/rcw-48.43.435"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
