{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-50.44.037","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 50.44.037","heading":"\"Institution of higher education\" defined.","body":"For the purposes of this chapter, the term \"institution of higher education\" means an educational institution in this state which:\n(1) Admits as regular students only individuals having a certificate of graduation from a high school, or the recognized equivalent of such a certificate;\n(2) Is legally authorized within this state to provide a program of education beyond high school;\n(3) Provides an educational program for which it awards a bachelor's or higher degree, or provides a program which is acceptable for full credit toward such a degree, or offers a program of training to prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation; and\n(4) Is a public or other nonprofit institution.\nNotwithstanding any of the foregoing subsections, all colleges and universities in this state are \"institutions of higher education\".","path":["Title 50","Chapter 50.44"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=50.44.037","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T03:24:53Z","sha256":"e62910147b3ace698ac71c84b678416dcabdc003b654f26f658f51c4b7d92db8","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-50.44.035","next":"us-wa/rcw-50.44.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
