{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-69.51a.220","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 69.51A.220","heading":"Health care professionals may authorize medical use of cannabis—Qualifying patients under age eighteen.","body":"(1) Health care professionals may authorize the medical use of cannabis for qualifying patients who are under the age of eighteen if:\n(a) The minor's parent or guardian participates in the minor's treatment and agrees to the medical use of cannabis by the minor; and\n(b) The parent or guardian acts as the designated provider for the minor and has sole control over the minor's cannabis.\n(2) The minor may not grow plants or purchase cannabis-infused products, useable cannabis, or cannabis concentrates from a cannabis retailer with a medical cannabis endorsement.\n(3) Both the minor and the minor's parent or guardian who is acting as the designated provider must be entered in the medical cannabis authorization database and hold a recognition card.\n(4) A health care professional who authorizes the medical use of cannabis by a minor must do so as part of the course of treatment of the minor's terminal or debilitating medical condition. If authorizing a minor for the medical use of cannabis, the health care professional must:\n(a) Consult with other health care providers involved in the minor's treatment, as medically indicated, before authorization or reauthorization of the medical use of cannabis; and\n(b) Reexamine the minor at least once every six months or more frequently as medically indicated. The reexamination must:\n(i) Determine that the minor continues to have a terminal or debilitating medical condition and that the condition benefits from the medical use of cannabis; and\n(ii) Include a follow-up discussion with the minor's parent or guardian to ensure the parent or guardian continues to participate in the treatment of the minor.","path":["Title 69","Chapter 69.51A"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=69.51A.220","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T03:47:42Z","sha256":"21d734551b0e64dd6bd92d2d4a506f956b47ce30f628946f68e5b6ace5c9a93b","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-69.51a.210","next":"us-wa/rcw-69.51a.222"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
