{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-7.07.010","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 7.07.010","heading":"Definitions.","body":"In this chapter:\n(1) \"Mediation\" means a process in which a mediator facilitates communication and negotiation between parties to assist them in reaching a voluntary agreement regarding their dispute.\n(2) \"Mediation communication\" means a statement, whether oral or in a record or verbal or nonverbal, that occurs during a mediation or is made for purposes of considering, conducting, participating in, initiating, continuing, or reconvening a mediation or retaining a mediator.\n(3) \"Mediator\" means an individual who conducts a mediation.\n(4) \"Nonparty participant\" means a person, other than a party or mediator, that participates in a mediation.\n(5) \"Mediation party\" means a person that participates in a mediation and whose agreement is necessary to resolve the dispute.\n(6) \"Person\" means an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, limited liability company, association, joint venture, government; governmental subdivision, agency, or instrumentality; or public corporation, or any other legal or commercial entity.\n(7) \"Proceeding\" means:\n(a) A judicial, administrative, arbitral, or other adjudicative process, including related prehearing and posthearing motions, conferences, and discovery; or\n(b) A legislative hearing or similar process.\n(8) \"Record\" means information that is inscribed on a tangible medium or that is stored in an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in perceivable form.\n(9) \"Sign\" means:\n(a) To execute or adopt a tangible symbol with the present intent to authenticate a record; or\n(b) To attach or logically associate an electronic symbol, sound, or process to or with a record with the present intent to authenticate a record.","path":["Title 7","Chapter 7.07"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=7.07.010","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T00:37:11Z","sha256":"3adf4d8e9899cf04684f4a1b0d294d754cc8fa55f074c7fc60d48438e9b7d0c9","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-7.06.910","next":"us-wa/rcw-7.07.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
