{"data":{"id":"us-wa/rcw-74.09.657","jurisdiction":"us-wa","citation":"RCW 74.09.657","heading":"Findings—Family planning services expansion.","body":"The legislature finds that:\n(1) Over half of all births in Washington state are covered by public programs;\n(2) Research has demonstrated that children of unintended pregnancies receive less prenatal care and are at higher risk for premature birth, low birth weight, neurological disorders, and poor academic performance;\n(3) In Washington state, over 50 percent of unintended pregnancies occur in women age 25 years and older;\n(4) Washington state's take charge program has been successful in helping women avoid unintended pregnancies; however, when the caseload declined due to federally mandated changes, the rate of unintended pregnancies increased dramatically;\n(5) Expanding family planning services to cover women to 260 percent of the federal poverty level would align that program's eligibility standard with income eligibility for publicly funded maternity care service; and\n(6) Such an expansion would reduce unintended pregnancies and associated costs to the state.","path":["Title 74","Chapter 74.09"],"source_url":"https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=74.09.657","current_through":"July 15, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-06T04:10:01Z","sha256":"e46eb74c50b539a28594c5bc766557ce1d0e4b5eeacc27668b37ffcc2dd28859","source_id":"us-wa","stale":false,"prev":"us-wa/rcw-74.09.655","next":"us-wa/rcw-74.09.658"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
