Stat. § 34-29-101","heading":"Definitions.","body":"(a) As used in this chapter:\n(i) \"Digital asset\" means a representation of economic, proprietary or access rights that is stored in a computer readable format and is either a digital consumer asset, digital security or virtual currency;\n(ii) \"Digital consumer asset\" means a digital asset that is used or bought primarily for consumptive, personal or household purposes and includes:\n(A) An open blockchain token constituting intangible personal property as otherwise provided by law;\n(B) Any other digital asset which does not fall within paragraphs (iii) and (iv) of this subsection.\n(iii) \"Digital security\" means a digital asset which constitutes a security, as defined in W.S. 17-4-102(a)(xxviii), but shall exclude digital consumer assets and virtual currency;\n(iv) \"Virtual currency\" means a digital asset that is:\n(A) Used as a medium of exchange, unit of account or store of value; and\n(B) Not recognized as legal tender by the United States government.\n(v) \"Private key\" means a unique element of cryptographic data, or any substantially similar analogue, which is:\n(A) Held by a person;\n(B) Paired with a unique, publicly available element of cryptographic data; and\n(C) Associated with an algorithm that is necessary to carry out an encryption or decryption required to execute a transaction.\n(b) The terms in paragraphs (a)(ii) through (iv) of this section are mutually exclusive.","path":["TITLE 34 - PROPERTY, CONVEYANCES AND SECURITY TRANSACTIONS","CHAPTER 29 - DIGITAL ASSETS","ARTICLE 1 - IN GENERAL"],"source_url":"https://wyoleg.gov/statutes/compress/title34.pdf","current_through":"2026 Budget Session; as of 2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T00:16:32Z","sha256":"07aed8556c55a6dea896a5aafb0b1e827fe3e9dd0269f2b469bbe22f67e668ee","source_id":"us-wy","stale":false,"prev":"us-wy/wyo.-stat.-34-28-103","next":"us-wy/wyo.-stat.-34-29-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
