Stat. § 6-5-203","heading":"Compounding; penalties.","body":"(a) A person commits compounding if, knowing of the actual commission of a crime or the violation of a statute for which a penalty or forfeiture is prescribed, he takes property or accepts an offer of property upon an agreement or understanding, express or implied, to:\n(i) Compound or conceal the crime or violation;\n(ii) Abstain from prosecuting the crime or violation;\n(iii) Withhold evidence of the crime or violation; or\n(iv) Encourage or procure the absence of witnesses or testimony at the examination or trial of the crime or violation.\n(b) A person commits compounding of a crime or a violation of a statute for which a penalty or forfeiture is prescribed if he takes property or accepts an offer of property upon an agreement or understanding, express or implied, to:\n(i) Compound, discontinue or delay a pending prosecution for the crime or violation;\n(ii) Withhold evidence of the crime or violation; or\n(iii) Encourage or procure the absence of witnesses or other testimony at the examination or trial of the crime or violation.\n(c) Compounding is:\n(i) A misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, a fine of not more than two thousand dollars ($2,000.00), or both:\n(A) Under subsection (b) of this section;\n(B) If a misdemeanor is compounded; or\n(C) If a violation of a statute for which a penalty or forfeiture is prescribed is compounded.\n(ii) A felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than three (3) years, a fine of not more than three thousand dollars ($3,000.00), or both if a felony punishable by imprisonment is compounded;\n(iii) A felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than five (5) years, a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), or both, if a felony punishable by death is compounded.","path":["TITLE 6 - CRIMES AND OFFENSES","CHAPTER 5 - OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION","ARTICLE 2 - HINDERING GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS"],"source_url":"https://wyoleg.gov/statutes/compress/title06.pdf","current_through":"2026 Budget Session; as of 2026-07-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T00:16:32Z","sha256":"72481020570bda0623819f0532f2f84e7e97dc80ad8b60285ea7cc7c13bf1c33","source_id":"us-wy","stale":false,"prev":"us-wy/wyo.-stat.-6-5-202","next":"us-wy/wyo.-stat.-6-5-204"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
