The description must include—\n(a) With respect to the packaging—\n(1) Classification as Type B(U), Type B(M), or fissile material packaging;\n(2) Gross weight;\n(3) Model number;\n(4) Identification of the containment system;\n(5) Specific materials of construction, weights, dimensions, and fabrication methods of—\n(i) Receptacles;\n(ii) Materials specifically used as nonfissile neutron absorbers or moderators;\n(iii) Internal and external structures supporting or protecting receptacles;\n(iv) Valves, sampling ports, lifting devices, and tie-down devices; and\n(v) Structural and mechanical means for the transfer and dissipation of heat; and\n(6) Identification and volumes of any receptacles containing coolant.\n(b) With respect to the contents of the package—\n(1) Identification and maximum radioactivity of radioactive constituents;\n(2) Identification and maximum quantities of fissile constituents;\n(3) Chemical and physical form;\n(4) Extent of reflection, the amount and identity of nonfissile materials used as neutron absorbers or moderators, and the atomic ratio of moderator to fissile constituents;\n(5) Maximum normal operating pressure;\n(6) Maximum weight;\n(7) Maximum amount of decay heat; and\n(8) Identification and volumes of any coolants.","path":["Title 10—Energy","CHAPTER I—NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION","PART 71—PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTATION OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL","Subpart D—Application for Package Approval"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-10.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:09Z","sha256":"fa3676170cc225c2d7844859412aaf559426b0dccca50d7a148c84e580112201","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/10-cfr-71.31","next":"us/10-cfr-71.35"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
