The subjects that are to be included in this training program are as follows:\nSecurity Enroute\n—Route planning and selection\n—Vehicle operation\n—Procedures at stops\n—Detours and use of alternate routes\nCommunications\n—Equipment operation\n—Status reporting\n—Contacts with law enforcement units\n—Communications discipline\n—Procedures for reporting incidents\nRadiological Considerations\n—Description of the radioactive cargo\n—Function and characteristics of the shipping casks\n—Radiation hazards\n—Federal, State and local ordinances relative to the shipment of radioactive materials\n—Responsible agencies\nResponse to Contingencies\n—Accidents\n—Severe weather conditions\n—Vehicle breakdown\n—Communications problems\n—Radioactive “spills”\n—Use of special equipment (flares, emergency lighting, etc.)\nResponse to Threats\n—Reporting\n—Calling for assistance\n—Use of immobilization features\n—Hostage situations\n—Avoiding suspicious situations\nThe licensee is also required to assure that armed individuals serving as shipment escorts, other than members of local law enforcement agencies, have completed a weapons training and qualifications program equivalent to that required of guards, as described in III and IV of appendix B of this part, to assure that each such individual is fully qualified to use weapons assigned him.","path":["Title 10—Energy","CHAPTER I—NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION","PART 73—PHYSICAL PROTECTION OF PLANTS AND MATERIALS"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-10.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:09Z","sha256":"4eefd4463762cfc5da5dde224faa949c66e3fbbe83d9b4e112575e35fb3d5718","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/10-cfr-appendix-c-to-part-73","next":"us/10-cfr-appendix-e-to-part-73"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
