{"data":{"id":"us/14-cfr-141.87","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"14 CFR 141.87","heading":"Change of chief instructor.","body":"Whenever a pilot school or provisional pilot school makes a change of designation of its chief instructor, that school:\n(a) Must immediately provide the FAA responsible Flight Standards office in which the school is located with written notification of the change;\n(b) May conduct training without a chief instructor for that training course for a period not to exceed 60 days while awaiting the designation and approval of another chief instructor;\n(c) May, for a period not to exceed 60 days, have the stage checks and end-of-course tests administered by:\n(1) The training course's assistant chief instructor, if one has been designated;\n(2) The training course's check instructor, if one has been designated;\n(3) An FAA inspector; or\n(4) An examiner.\n(d) Must, after 60 days without a chief instructor, cease operations and surrender its certificate to the Administrator; and\n(e) May have its certificate reinstated, upon:\n(1) Designating and approving another chief instructor;\n(2) Showing it meets the requirements of § 141.27(a)(2) of this part; and\n(3) Applying for reinstatement on a form and in a manner prescribed by the Administrator.","path":["Title 14—Aeronautics and Space","CHAPTER I—FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION","SUBCHAPTER H—SCHOOLS AND OTHER CERTIFICATED AGENCIES","PART 141—PILOT SCHOOLS","Subpart E—Operating Rules"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-14.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:20Z","sha256":"213e7a8270522529120f82f706c9d7be448d19397ca216c3fa748abda6d8b7c7","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/14-cfr-141.85","next":"us/14-cfr-141.89"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
