When a recomputation is called for due to a change in the reported railroad or social security earnings, the Board processes it automatically. Increased benefits resulting from a recomputation are paid from the earliest month that the recomputation is effective. The annuitant does not have to request a recomputation to consider additional earnings, although the annuitant may request a recomputation before the automatic recomputation is processed. However, the effective date of the recomputation is the same, whether the recomputation is done automatically or at the request of the annuitant.","path":["Title 20—Employees' Benefits","CHAPTER II—RAILROAD RETIREMENT BOARD","SUBCHAPTER B—REGULATIONS UNDER THE RAILROAD RETIREMENT ACT","PART 225—PRIMARY INSURANCE AMOUNT DETERMINATIONS","Subpart F—Recomputing PIA's"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-20.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:45Z","sha256":"400b1af78b20c34b5797db59b317a9860df6ac96079b583421ea73f737d6e870","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/20-cfr-225.55","next":"us/20-cfr-225.57"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
